Operators stop trusting any system that cries wolf. The fastest way to lose a security or safety team is to deliver raw detections as alerts.
Principles for a trustworthy rules layer
- Combine conditions: class, zone, time, duration, and count together, not alone.
- Add hysteresis so flickering detections do not produce flickering alerts.
- Attach context: a clip, a map location, and the rule that fired.
- Escalate deliberately, with acknowledgement and clear ownership.
Rules should be readable by the people who live with them. If an operator cannot explain why an alert fired, the rule is too clever.
